Stanley used to be a former fishing village in Hong Kong before the British Invasion and has now turned into a popular tourist destination. Stanley is known for its various bars and restaurants where visitors get to sample a variety of foods from diverse cuisines. Stanley was formerly the largest settlement in Hong Kong Island. An echo of its past as a fishing village is still seen, as it will be evident to you once you stroll through the closely packed friendly streets of the village. The water front road facing the Stanley beach is jam packed with restaurants and eateries and offer pleasant views. Besides all these however, Stanley is famous for its shopping which is concentrated on the ever-famous Stanley Market on Stanley New Street.

The Stanley Market is the most ideal place if you are looking to shop for curios and bric-a-brac. There are many interesting souvenirs to buy at the market and they all come at cheap prices. Curious little antiques are all over the market. From little figurines to coins, painting, books and ornaments, antiques are abundant at the Stanley Market. The market also features a lot of Chinese linen items, from meticulously embroidered, brightly colored pieces of clothing, handkerchiefs, scarves and even table centers, table clothes, curtains and so on. The Stanley Market is a well packed hub of culture and it is an ideal way to spend a day; strolling through the streets and hunting for unique and strange gifts to take back home. The Stanley Market is home to several historical buildings like the Shui Sin Temple and the Murray House. Once you are done shopping, you can choose to stroll along and visit these buildings, or you can always head down to the beach and cool off with a swim.
